Is it normal to wait for the editorial board's first review for a month?
2025-04-16
It has been sent for external review, and we should be looking for reviewers. The next step in the review process is Awaiting Reviewer Scores.
2025-04-15
The submission status has changed from "Awaiting editorial board first review" to "Awaiting reviewer selection". Does this mean it has been sent for external review, or is it still under internal review by the editorial board?

Submitted on January 16th, received first round of comments on February 10th and thought the process would be slower during the Chinese New Year, but surprisingly the review was quite fast. Given a week to make revisions, submitted responses to comments on February 14th. Normally, the results would come out quickly after minor revisions, but it remained in "awaiting reviewer scores" status for a month and a half... Waited for too long and decided to politely inquire with the editor. The editor mentioned that one of the reviewers had not completed their review yet, and after following up with the reviewer, the article was accepted in just a few days. Personal suggestion: if the status remains unchanged for an extended period (far beyond the normal duration), it is okay to politely inquire about the progress. Otherwise, waiting indefinitely is not a solution, as the reviewing editor may not suddenly remember they have pending articles to review!

It's only been a few days since submission and it's already in Awaiting Executive EIC Check. It's been stuck here for almost a week now, feeling like it's going to be rejected. Can't even pass the editor, are you handing it over to the chief editor before being rejected?

Submitted on March 20th, rejected on April 1st, the rejection came pretty quickly.

Does anyone know if it's normal for the assignment of reviewers to still be ongoing after 20 days?

The journal's official website has been updated:
The website registered in WOS is the Optica Publishing Group's website https://opg.optica.org/col/home.cfm
(Optica Publishing Group, formerly known as The Optical Society of America, OSA)
The journal's own websites are:
Chinese: The Chinese Optics Journal website hosted by Chinese Laser Press (CLP): https://www.opticsjournal.net/Journals/col.cshtml
English: Researching, owned by Chinese Laser Press (CLP): https://researching.cn/col
It seems that for submitting to the OSA website, registration for an OSA account is required.
For the latter two websites, clicking on submission will directly redirect to the ScholarOne system by Clarivate.

The initial submission was to PR, after the review, feedback was given but it was rejected by the editor. It was suggested to submit to COL, initially forgot about it and submitted to other journals which did not work out. Only then remembered to submit to this journal, as PR had been submitted before and there was feedback from reviewers. After submitting to COL, the editor provided a few suggestions and after making the changes it was accepted. However, the speed of handling manuscripts in this journal is indeed quite slow. Originally, it was in the 3rd tier, but after the latest ranking table came out at the end of the year, it moved up to the 2nd tier. Instantly, graduation seemed within reach, hahaha.
